Clinic Audiologist / Au.D., ABAC
Meet Nicolle Yopa
Nicolle has been in the hearing healthcare industry for 10 years. She received her Doctor of Audiology Degree from the Northeast Ohio AuD Consortium, and her Bachelor of Science in Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences from Ohio University.
She has training and experience in hearing and vestibular diagnostics & treatment, including electrophysiology testing, vestibular testing & treatment, tinnitus assessment & treatment, and hearing loss treatment with hearing aids and surgical devices. However, her area of most focus is in treating adult hearing loss and tinnitus with hearing aids and cochlear implants.
Hereditary hearing loss runs on her mother’s side of the family with three family members having cochlear implants. Nicolle was first diagnosed with hearing loss during her undergraduate program, and now wears hearing aids.
Best practices require both subjective and objective measures – it’s both a science and an art. Nicolle applies both with every patient, understanding that while two patients may have the same hearing loss on paper, their auditory processing and sound preferences/tolerance may greatly differ. She believes the best outcomes are achieved when a patient’s loved one or family is involved as hearing loss does not only affect the person with the hearing loss. She is very transparent with her patients on the realistic results that can be achieved based on the severity of their hearing loss. By the end of their appointments, her patients tend to feel all their questions have been thoroughly answered and they’re comfortable moving on to the next step.
In her spare time, Nicolle is always experimenting in her kitchen with new recipes and sourdough baking with the approval (or disapproval) of a 9-year-old’s taste buds. They try to spend every minute they can outside in the warmer months cycling, walking trails, attending soccer games and checking out the newest ice cream spots.
